Welcome! My name is Sheena Schier, and I'm passionate about unveiling the mysteries of the universe through physics. My academic journey began at Cabrillo College, where from 2004 to 2008, I immersed myself in the world of mathematics and physics. During this time, I not only studied these subjects but also began sharing my knowledge through tutoring. I worked with students at various educational levels, from middle school to college, helping them discover their potential in math and physics.
In 2006, my role expanded at Cabrillo as I took on responsibilities at the Math and Physics Learning Centers and assisted in the physics lab. This enriching experience paved the way for my transfer to the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) in 2009, where I earned a B.S. in Astrophysics in 2011.
My academic ambitions didn't stop there. In 2012, I entered the graduate program at UCSC, where I continued to tutor and teach physics labs. My research focused on ground-based experimental particle physics. This path led me to an incredible opportunity: working at the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) in 2015. My time at CERN was transformative, inspiring my thesis on the analysis of proton-proton collision data to search for dark matter candidates in the low mass spectrum. I earned my Ph.D. in 2018, marking a significant milestone in my career.
After my doctoral graduation, I spent time traveling in Australia and exploring Fiji, broadening my horizons and gaining new perspectives. In 2019, I ventured into the tech industry, developing web-application software at a startup in Santa Cruz. However, my passion for teaching never waned.
Today, I am focused on educating the next generation of physicists and mathematicians. I offer tutoring services to college, high school, and middle school students, striving to inspire and educate young minds in our community. Let's explore the universe together through the fascinating lens of physics!
